A special Umuganda is scheduled to take place this coming Saturday on 13th August. This is part of the hygiene and security campaign that was jointly launched by the City of Kigali and Rwanda National police early this week.
The special Umuganda will be a voluntary community activity that will mainly be aimed at cleaning the neighborhoods. It will attract the city residents in their different neighbouhoods in the three city districts of Gasabo, Kicukiro and Nyarugenge.
The six month hygiene and security campaign is spearheaded by the City of Kigali and Rwanda National Police and it’s aimed at making Kigali a cleaner and secure city for all residents and visitors.
In the campaign all parties will work together in fighting illicit drugs, the sale of alcoholic drinks to minors and address the issues of domestic and gender based violence. It also emphasizes the proper organization and functioning of night patrols to ensure public order.
Other measures include promotion of road safety, fighting fire outbreak through joint public awareness and training, noise pollution, ensuring effectiveness of community policing committees and timely information sharing.
On hygiene, the City of Kigali and the National Police will continue to raise public awareness on hygiene and environmental standards, waste management, greening, improve community and individual sanitation.
