Police senior command symposium starts with focus on justice for sustainable peace
The Police symposium on peace, security and justice started on Thursday, June 15, at the National Police College (NPC) in Musanze District as experts in various fields including scholars, policymakers, academicians and researchers discussed on how to enhance justice for sustainable peace and security in Africa.
The 10th edition is part of the one year Police Senior Command and Staff Course (PSCSC) programme.
The Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Dr. Emmanuel Ugirashebuja, while officially opening the symposium, said that justice is a key factor that contributes to peace and security. Read more

The 10th edition of the Police Senior Command and Staff Course (PSCSC) concluded on Friday, June 16, at the National Police College (NPC) in Musanze District as experts explored on enhanced justice as a yardstick for peace and security in Africa.
The Minister of Interior, Alfred Gasana, while closing the symposium, said that persistent conflicts in Africa are customarily associated with different forms of social injustices, failure to address the basic human security needs and root causes of conflicts like marginalization; equal access to opportunities and resources, inclusiveness and equal protection by the laws, among others. Police key to reducing youth crime, says Minister Utumatwishima
The Minister of Youth, Dr. Abdallah Utumatwishima pointed out that encouraging the youth to engage in various government and individual development initiatives is one of the ways that can make a large number of young people avoid a life of crime and contribute to the transformation of the country.
The Minister made the remarks on Wednesday, June 14, while speaking to Police officers, who are attending a workshop on civic education and professional conduct at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters at Kacyiru.
Over 100 officers, including District Police Commanders, directors, commanders of specialized units, are attending a five-day workshop.Read more
Gerayo Amahoro goes to Rwanda Correctional Service
The ongoing Gerayo Amahoro road safety awareness campaign was on Tuesday, June 13, extended to Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS).
Rwanda National Police (RNP) spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera reminded the prison wardens to be vigilant and to respect traffic rules and regulations.
They were explained on the state of road security in Rwanda and globally as well as reckless human behaviours that contribute to road carnage.Read more
Mass driving tests kick off
The much awaited mass driving tests started on Monday, June 12, at different sites across the country.
The provisional and definitive tests were brought closer to facilitate a huge number of registered candidates and to fast-track the services.
All candidates, who were previously supposed to do their tests between June 12, 2023 and June next year, will now do them in a span of two months.Read more
Police officers start training on peacekeeping
Over forty Police officers, on Monday June 12, started a pre-deployment training for Individual Police Officers (IPO) at the Police Training School (PTS) Gishari in Rwamagana District.
The two-week peacekeeping course is conducted by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) in partnership with Rwanda National Police (RNP).
It seeks to align the officers with the UN peacekeeping standards such as command, administration, human rights due diligence policy, community oriented policing, and capacity development.Read more
