Police FC win 'Agaciro Development Fund' cup

Police Football club won the 2015 edition of the Agaciro Development Fund (AgDF) after edging out Sunrise 1-0 in the final match played on August 30 at Amahoro stadium.

New recruit, Hegman Ngomirakiza scored the lonely goal in the 25 minute of the first half after he tapped in a Rashid Karisa free kick that was awarded after a handball by a Sunrise defender.

There were a number of chances squandered in both halves that would have seen the law enforcers creating a big score margin.

Striker Innocent Twagirimana, who was substituted in the second half, missed three clear chances; two in the first minute of the game after through balls from defender,  Gabriel Mugabo.  Read More…

A glance at cross-border cooperation, Rwanda National Police’s experience

Rwanda officially became a member of the international Police organization – Interpol – in 1974 when the National Central Bureau (NCB) was established in Kigali. Between then and the year 1994, you can hardly trace any positive outcome of NCB-Kigali to Rwandans.

 The argument that the central bureau at the time was instead a weapon to dehumanize and terrorize fellow Rwandans in and outside the country, holds some concentrated juice owing to the fact that the tragedy that befell the country twenty one years ago - 1994 Genocide against the Tusti – was largely planned and executed by security institutions of the genocidal regime, including the organ that had the police mandate at the time.  Read More….

How Police rescued kidnapped 14 years old boy

On August 21, Pierre Celestin Gatera walked into Muhoza Police station in Musanze District and filed a missing person report. His 14-year old son François Niyonzima had gone missing – he hadn’t returned home since the previous day.

Gatera told the police that he had received calls from an anonymous person claiming that they had kidnapped his son and were asking for a ransom of Rwf1.5 million.

Police mounted investigations into the matter and indeed it was established that the child was missing; next on the investigators’ agenda was to find the whereabouts of the boy and rescue him then apprehend the kidnapper. Read More…

Keep up the momentum, IGP tells police FC

The Inspector General of Police Emmanuel K Gasana has urged Police Football Club to aim for the highest and win more local, regional and continental tournaments.

GP Gasana made the remarks on August 31 as the team presented their recently won Agaciro Development Fund Trophy to Rwanda National Police leadership during a reception held at the force’s headquarters in Kacyiru.

On Sunday, Police FC won the 2015 edition of the Agaciro Development Fund (AgDF) after edging out Sunrise 1-0 in the final match played at Amahoro stadium. The victory came merely a month after the team also won the 2015 Peace Cup title after seeing off rivals Rayon Sports in a 1-0 victory. Read More…

Police calls on parents to keep children off water bodies

Rwanda National Police has called on parents especially those residing near water bodies like lakes and streams, to watch over their children and take precautions to protect them against drowning.

Lakes and other water bodies pose a serious danger to children and RNP is appealing to parents and guardians to keep an eye and ensure that their children do not play around them or send them to fetch water from these sources.

The call comes after three children drowned in separate incidents in the last two days. Read More…

Eastern Province security meeting lays out strategies to curb major crimes

Members of security organs operating in the eastern province have vowed to increase their partnership with the public in countering major crimes within the province.

The organs made the commitment during a provincial security meeting held on September 1, in Rwamagana District.

The meeting brought about 340 officials who also include district mayors, District Police Commanders and army representatives, coordinators of administrative security organ (DASSO) at the district and sector levels.

It is a follow up of the one held last mother on the national level that brought together the Ministry of Local Government, Rwanda National Police and local leaders on the provincial level, to discuss on the activities of DASSO and its challenges to execute its mandate. Read More…

Judicial Police, prosecutors meet to harmonise investigations

About one hundred judicial police officers and prosecutors from Gasabo and Nyarugenge judicial territories held one day meeting on September 2 in Kigali to synchronize their criminal investigation activities and ensure fair justice.

They exhausted areas that should be addressed in varied dossiers forwarded from police to prosecution.

While speaking to participants, ACP Elias Mwesigye, the Regional Police Commander, central, urged them to harmonise their activities and leave no room for criminals to elude justice. Read More…

Suspected serial forger arrested

Police have arrested a 53-year old man for allegedly forging several documents including foreign passports and national identifications, driving licenses and stamps.

Ali Ruzavaho, a resident of Rwezamenyo Sector in Nyarugenge district was apprehended on September 1 following detailed police investigation.

Security agencies learnt of the forged documents and tracked them to the source which happened to be Ruzavaho’s home in Rwezamenyo.

Police investigators also toed the suspect to a time when they caught him red-handed as he was selling a forged Burundian national ID at an equivalent of Rwf10, 000. Read More…

NPC graduates 40 in maiden Basic Criminal Investigation course

National Police College has graduated forty criminal investigators in its maiden Basic Criminal Investigation course that was launched in March this year.

Those that graduated include selected army and police officers.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony held on September 04, at NPC, the college commandant, Commissioner of Police (CP) Felix Namuhoranye told granduands to uphold professionalism in their criminal investigation.

“The career you are going to undertake is full of temptations. You must always go by the book. The only way to overcome such temptations is to abide by the laws and values of your respective institutions,” said CP Namuhoranye. Read More…

Nine arrested in police crackdown on drug trafficking

Police in Musanze and Kayonza districts arrested eight people suspected of trafficking narcotics.

The suspects were arrested separately, on September 03 during an operations conducted to crackdown drug abuse in the country.

The suspects are currently detained at Muhoza and Rukara Police Stations, in Musanze and Kayonza districts respectively.

During the operation, Police also seized drugs, illicit brew and banned gin; they include 100 liters of illicit brew commonly known as kanyanga, 159 dozens of blue sky, four pellets of cannabis and 35 liters of illicit gin, among others. Read More…

Police Handball Club maintains league glory

 Rwanda National Police handball club has retained its league lead after a 49-24 landslide win away in Rubavu against Groupe Scolaire Inyemeramihigo on September 5.

The win that kept Police Handball Club at the top of the table with 48 maximum points, twelve points ahead of second placed APR who have 36 points.

Although both teams still have games in hand, police coach, Sgt Albert Sibomana is confident of retaining the national glory with only four matches left to the end of the league. Read More…
