IGP Munyuza in Zambia for Police bilateral meeting

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza was in Zambia for a five-day visit aimed at strengthening cooperation between Rwanda National Police (RNP) and Zambia Police Service (ZPS).

On his first day of the visit on Monday, December 14, IGP Munyuza, who was accompanied by Rwanda's High Commissioner to Zambia, Amb. Amandin Rugira, held a bilateral meeting with his Zambian counterpart, Mr. Kakoma Kanganja, in Lusaka.

The two Police institutions renewed collaboration through a cooperation pact signed by the two Police Chiefs. Read more


IGP Munyuza visits Zambia Police School

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza, who is in Zambia since Monday for bilateral cooperation, on Tuesday December 15, visited Zambia Police School of Public Order Maintenance--Kanfinsa College.

IGP Munyuza was accompanied, on the second day of the visit, by Rwanda's High Commissioner to Zambia, Amb. Amandin Rugira.

The Police School offers professional courses that include law on Police duties, drill and weaponry, Police science and public order management.

It also shelters a Mobile Unit, a force that reinforces Police Stations in case of any security threat.Read more


You may escape arrest but you will not hide from COVID-19

Rwanda National Police (RNP) reminded all residents of Rwanda to comply with the new and other existing health guidelines on prevention from the spread of COVID-19, rather than being forced.

RNP spokesperson, CP John Bosco Kabera, while appearing of Rwanda Television on Tuesday, December 15, said that some people comply when forced or only for fear to be arrested. Read more


Rwanda National Police in tree planting drive

Rwanda National Police (RNP), on Thursday, December 10, launched a tree planting exercise to supplement the national environmental protection programme.

The planting of trees, which started in Kamonyi and Rubavu districts, will continue to other parts of the country.

The environmental protection activities also include connecting villages that are far from the national grid, with solar power systems as well as constructing terraces and water channels to fight soil erosion.Read more


UNMISS acting Police Commissioner briefs newly deployed Rwandan contingent

The acting Police Commissioner of the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) commended the "exemplary service" for the previous Rwandan Police peacekeepers and challenged those that took over the assignment to maintain the standards.

Brig. Gen. Mutasem Aljadid Almajali, who is also the UNMISS Deputy Police Commissioner, made the remarks on Friday, December 18, during his maiden meeting with Rwanda Formed Police Unit-Three (RWAFPU-3) contingent commanders and officers, who arrived in Juba in October. Read more


Complying with directives is for your own safety

The Government directives and other issued guidelines are meant to guarantee the health of every resident of Rwanda from the COVID-19, and must be respected for the safety of all.

Rwanda National Police (RNP) spokesperson, CP John Bosco Kabera said that the force adopted measures to oversee compliance through education and enforcement.

"We understand that there are some services, like restaurants and hotels, that disregard the directives by operating bars. In the last week alone, Police arrested 55 people, who were driving while drunk," CP Kabera said. Read more


Security organs urged to stimulate fight against gender based violence

It is crucial for security organs and community policing groups to get training in order to have similar understanding and effective response to the pressing issue of violence faced by women and girls.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rose Muhisoni, the Deputy Commissioner for Community Policing in Rwanda National Police (RNP) made the remarks on Thursday, December 17, during the training on responding to the vices women and girls face. The training attracted 150 participants from Police, Military, Correctional Services, RIB, DASSO and youth volunteers. Read more


Nyagatare: Man arrested with 170kgs of smuggled minerals

A suspected illegal mineral dealer was arrested on Wednesday, December 16, in Musheri Sector of Nyagatare District with over 170kgs of smuggled Cassiterite.

Germain Ntigurirwa, 39, was at the time transporting the minerals on a motorcycle RF 940I, which was also impounded. The minerals had just been smuggled into Rwanda from the neighbouring Uganda, through an illegal border point in Gikunyu Village, Nyagatabire Cell in Musheri Sector. Read more


COVID-19: Over 60 violators caught in Downtown

Police and local authorities in City of Kigali, on Monday, December 14, caught over 60 people in Downtown, Nyarugenge District, who were found operating contrary to the government directives meant to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Majority of the caught violators are traders in Downtown, who undermined the 50 percent number of businesses or traders required to operate in each shift; those who had no hand sanitizers, disregarded social distancing and did not wear a  facemask. Read more
