COVID-19: Police cautions against defying officers' instructions

Rwanda National Police (RNP) reminds the general public to respect the curfew and to heed Police orders when found in related violations. The curfew starts at 9 PM and ends at 5 AM.

A report by the Traffic and Road Safety Department indicate that since April, 498 motorists, who were found violating the curfew in different parts of the country, disregarded Police instructions to park at provided lots and to go to allocated centres. They instead drove or rode away.

RNP spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera, said: "First and foremost, people should respect the curfew; 9 PM should find you home; it is not the time to start heading home. Secondly, when you are stopped, abide and go where you are instructed to go or take your automobile.

When you undermine instructions given to you by the authority, in this case by Police officers enforcing the curfew, you will be arrested." Read more

Gatsibo: Over 40 arrested praying in the bush

Forty-two people were arrested on Thursday July 16, in Gihuta Cell, Rugarama Sector in Gatsibo District after they were found gathered for prayers in the bush.

Places of worship or prayer services are only permitted to resume under the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Local Government and upon approval by local authorities.

The guidelines were put in place to curb the spread of novel Coronavirus pandemic.

Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Humdun Twizeyimana, the Eastern Region Police Spokesperson said that they were found praying in the wild, which was risky and contrary to the government directives.Read more

Rubavu: Three arrested over attempted illegal crossing, bribery


Three people were arrested separately on Saturday in Rubavu District for allegedly attempting to offer bribes so as to allow them cross illegally to Democratic Republic of Congo.

Germain Ngendahayo, 25, Joseph Nsengiyumva, 23, and Otieno Eric Obonyo were arrested separately attempting to cross to DRC through illegal border points. Read more

Three suspected thieves arrested in Karongi


Three people were arrested on Thursday July 16, in Nyarusazi Cell, Bwishyura Sector of Karongi District in connection with attacking a local resident and stealing Rwf110, 000 from him.

The suspects currently detained at Bwishyura Police station, are Nonela Muhawenayo, 28, Emmanuel Bizimana, 28, and Telesphore Sindayigaya alias Karajegera, 30.

Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Bonaventure Twizere Karekezi, the Police spokesperson for the Western region, explained that on Tuesday at about 1:30 PM, Muhawenayo, Bizimana and Sindayigaya lured one Euphrem Mbarushimana, 33, into their house after making him believe that they had a bicycle for sale. Kayonza: Illegal mineral dealer arrested


An illegal mineral dealer identified as Jerome Mukinisha, 53, was arrested on Wednesday July 15, in Murama Sector, Kayonza District with 68 kilogrammes of cassiterite.

Mukinisha is suspected to be part of the ring that buys minerals from illegal miners and sells them to other illegal dealers. Read more

Nyamagabe: Four arrested over poaching, attempted bribery


Police in Nyamagabe District, on Monday July 13, arrested four people for allegedly killing an Antelope in the gazetted Nyungwe National Park and attempting to give Police officers a bribe of Rwf110, 000  so as to prevent any legal actions.

Nyamagabe District Police Commander (DPC), Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaston Karagire said that Police first arrested two poachers; Faustin Nsengumuremyi, 21, and Vincent Sinamenye, 18, after killing an Antelope in Nyungwe National Park.

Defender Usengimana Faustin joins Police FC from Zambian's Buildcon

Police Football Club completed the signing of central defender, Faustin Usengimana.

The former Isonga and Rayon Sport defender signed a two-year contract on Wednesday, July 15.

He joined the law enforcers following the expiry of his contract at Buildcon Football Club of Zambia.

Police FC Secretary-General and club spokesperson, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Maurice Karangwa, said that Usengimana “brings experience in defence and his arrival boosts the clubs competitiveness next season.” Read more
