A contingent of 160 police officers under the Rwanda Formed Police Unit Two (RWAFPU2-9) returned home on Thursday, May 8, after successfully completing a one-year peacekeeping mission under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).
They were received at Kigali International Airport by Commissioner of Police (CP) Yahya Kamunuga, Commissioner for Peace Support Operations, on behalf of the Rwanda National Police (RNP) leadership.
They were replaced by RWAFPU2-10, which left earlier in the morning under the command of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Jules Rutayisire.
RWAFPU-2, one of the four Rwandan Police contingents deployed in Central African Republic (CAR), operates in Kaga Bandoro, some 300kms out of the capital Bangui.

CP Kamunuga, commended their discipline, sacrifice, and professionalism, which contributed significantly to the success of their tour-of-duty.
“The Rwanda National Police leadership welcomes you back home and appreciates the dedication, resilience and professional conduct you demonstrated during your tour-of-duty. It is this spirit that enables our institution and country to continuously uphold its mandate at home and abroad. The duty continues at home,” CP Kamunuga said.

SSP Boniface Kagenza, who guided RWAFPU2-9 back home, reflected on the experience, highlighting the importance of teamwork and the will to serve.
“What enabled us to succeed was our collective effort and commitment to work as a team. Beyond security duties, we engaged in various community development initiatives, including general cleaning (Umuganda) and other environmental protection activities, and supporting underprivileged school children with scholastic materials. These efforts helped us build trust and partnership with the local population,” SSP Kagenza said.
