PEACEKEEPING: Rwanda National Police starts rotation of contingents in Central African Republic

Rwanda National Police (RNP), on Saturday, April 20, started the rotation of three peacekeeping contingents serving under the UN Multidimensional Stabilization Integrated Mission in Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

Rwanda Formed Police Unit Two rotation Eight (RWAFPUII-8) operating in Kaga Bandoro was replaced by RWAFPUII-9 commanded by Chief Superintendent of Police CSP Boniface Niyitegeka, which left earlier Saturday.

RWAFPUII-8 returned home safely later in the afternoon after successfully completing their one year tour-of-duty.

Commissioner of Police (CP) William Kayitare saluted off the deployed contingent and welcomed home those who were replaced, at Kigali International Airport.

He thanked the replaced contingent for for representing their country ably.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Fulgence Furaha, who guided RWAFPUII-8 back home, said that beyond their routine duties to protect civilians and other escort duties, they also engaged in human security activities to support the local communities in Kaga Bandoro.

Among others human security activities, the contingent donated blood, conducted free medical outreach and environmental protection, among others.

Other contingents to be rotated are RWAFPU1 and Protection Support Unit (PSU), both operating in the capital Bangui.
