Nyanza: Nyagisozi residents in crime prevention campaign

Residents of Nyagisozi sector in Nyanza District have committed to cooperate with security organs in the fight against crimes to ensure peace and security in their area.

The residents made the pledge on September 8 in Rurangazi cell during a one- day security meeting with security organs in the District.

The meeting was also attended by local leaders.

It aimed at discussing a range of security issues in the sector and subsequently draw collective measure to strengthen security in the area.

Ange Claude Kayigi, head of the youth in Nyanza district challenged residents to preserve  what has been achieved and strengthen cooperation with security organs in order to fight and prevent crimes.

He urged them to own initiatives aimed at promoting safety such as tightened night patrols and also report  lawbreakers In time.

Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP), Jean Baptiste Bizimana, the District Community Liaison Officer  explained to residents that security should be given priority since it is the basis to development.

He urged them to refrain from drug abuse which he noted is linked with other crimes such as assault, theft, rape and defilement.

AIP Bizimana also warned against drug abuse and urged them to give fighting it emphasis.

He also warned bar owners against selling alcohol to under-aged children and challenged parents to monitor their children.
