Man arrested attempting to bribe Police officer to influence vehicle inspection results

Police at Rwamagana Automobile Inspection Centre arrested a man on Thursday, May 2, for allegedly attempting to bribe an officer so as to issue a vehicle inspection certificate for his vehicle.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, the Police spokesperson for the Eastern region, said that the vehicle had failed the gas emissions test when the owner tried to give a bribe of Frw100,000 to the Police officer, who was inspecting it.

"The vehicle was emitting gas and the owner was told to go and fix it, instead he tried to seduce the officer with Frw100,000 in order to influence inspection results and give the vehicle a mechanical inspection certificate.

The police officer reported to his superior and the suspect was arrested in the act, and handed over to RIB at Kigabiro station," SP Twizeyimana said.

He warned against such criminal behaviours, which also affect the environment and people's health.
