On Friday, June 27, the Rwanda National Police (RNP), in partnership with the City of Kigali, conducted a one-day training on responsible social media use for over 500 youth volunteers from different parts of the country.
The session held in Gasabo District, aimed to equip members of the Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Crime Prevention (RYVCP) with the knowledge and skills to use social media responsibly, promote positive digital engagement, and combat the spread of misinformation.
The training included interactive sessions on the responsible use of digital platforms, instilling Rwandan values and the expected code of conduct for youth volunteers during community service activities.

The Mayor of City of Kigali, Samuel Dusengiyumva, while opening the session, emphasized the critical role of young people in shaping the nation’s future.
He urged the young people to use their energy constructively and responsibly in the digital space.
“Youth are the backbone of our nation—a powerful force for progress and transformation. But that same strength, if misdirected, can become a source of harm. I encourage you to use social media as a tool for positive change—to inform, educate, and uplift—while standing firm against those who seek to mislead or damage the image of our country,” Mayor Dusengiyumva stated.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Teddy Ruyenzi, the RNP Commissioner for community policing, commended the longstanding contributions of youth volunteers in community safety and development.
“Your dedication over the years—educating communities on road safety, crime prevention, and substance abuse, as well as supporting local welfare initiatives—has been commendable. Today, we ask you to extend that same commitment to the online world. Be vigilant against misinformation, defend Rwanda’s achievements, and guide your peers toward responsible digital citizenship,” ACP Ruyenzi urged.
Currently, Rwanda counts over two million youth volunteers who are among the Rwanda National Police’s key partners, especially in security awareness campaigns and initiatives aimed at improving the well-being of citizens.
