Police Football Club has completed the signing of central defender, Faustin Usengimana. The former Isonga and Rayon Sport defender signed a two-year contract on Wednesday, July 15.
He joined the law enforcers following the expiry of his contract at Buildcon Football Club of Zambia.
Police FC Secretary-General and club spokesperson, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Maurice Karangwa, said that Usengimana “brings experience in defence and his arrival boosts the clubs competitiveness next season.”
Usengimana is the sixth player to be signed in this transfer window, following the arrivals of midfielder Evode Ntwari from Mukura Victory Sports; Martin Fabrice Twizerimana from Kiyovu Sports, Iradukunda Eric (Radu) from Rayon Sports, goalkeeer Janvier Kwizera (Rihungu) from Bugesera and Aboubakar Uwiduhaye from relegated Heroes.
“The new players filled gaps that we had, either last season or left by other players, who have been released by Police FC as we build a more aggressive squad,” said CIP Karangwa.
He added: “For now, we have signed all the players we wanted but we are also going to promote our young and promising players from Interforce to join the senior side.”
CIP Karangwa also disclosed that the club has extended contracts for five players, namely; Strikers Osée Iyabivuze and Antoine Dominique Ndayishimiye, wingers Jean Paul Uwimbabazi and Olivier Usabimana, and goalkeeper Habarurema Gahungu.
Gahungu, whose contract had one-year left, was extended for two more years, Iyabivuze for two years while others signed for three years.
Meanwhile, five players were also released by the club. Striker Isae Songa and winger Cedric Kubwimana had their contracts terminated on mutual consent while the quartet of Eric Ngendahimana, Mohamed Mpozembizi, Celestin Nshimiyimana and Issah Bigirimana were released following the expiry of their contracts.
