The Rwanda Formed Police Unit Three (RWAFPU 3), Rwandbatt 1, and Rwandbatt 3, serving under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), conducted a two-day joint medical outreach campaign that provided free healthcare services to 454 residents at Gudele Health Center in Juba.
Held from June 11 to 12, the humanitarian initiative delivered a broad range of essential medical services, including general consultations, dental treatment, ophthalmology care, obstetrical ultrasound examinations, blood glucose testing, and malaria screening.
In addition to receiving appropriate medical treatment, community members were educated on the proper use of medication, personal hygiene practices, and the maintenance of clean household environments to prevent the spread of disease.
The beneficiaries included 82 men, 270 women, and 102 children.

Minister of Health for Central Equatoria State, Hon. Joice Bakwa, commended UNMISS and the Rwandan contingents for their continued contribution to strengthening healthcare delivery and supporting vulnerable communities across the state.
“This outreach reflects the strong partnership between UNMISS and the people of South Sudan. By bringing healthcare services closer to communities, we are helping save lives, improving access to treatment, and encouraging people to seek medical care before conditions become critical,” said Hon. Bakwa.
She reaffirmed the Ministry of Health’s commitment to collaborating with UNMISS and other partners to enhance the health and well-being of citizens, while urging residents to seek medical attention promptly whenever they experience health concerns.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dative Iribagiza, the RWAFPU 3 Contingent Commander, highlighted Rwanda’s community-centered approach to peacekeeping, emphasizing that security personnel have a responsibility not only to maintain peace and security but also to contribute to the welfare of the communities they serve.
“Rwanda’s peacekeeping philosophy places people at the center of our mission. Beyond maintaining security, we are committed to supporting the well-being of local communities and helping create conditions in which they can thrive,” said SSP Iribagiza.
