Youth volunteers urged on vigilance

Members of youth volunteers in community policing  organisation (YVCPO), in the Northern Province  have been urged to improve  the quantity  and quality of their activities in areas of operations.

The youngsters were  also  asked to remain vigilant and more active this year so as to dramatically eliminate  lawlessness especially abuse  of drugs and excessive  consumption  of alcohol.

This was part of a message  delivered  by the Regional  Police Commander (RPC), Assistant  Commissioner  of  Police (ACP),Jean  Bosco  Ntaganira  yesterday  at  the Regional  police  headquarters while  meeting  leaders  YVCPO in the province.

ACP Ntaganira underscored  the contribution  of the volunteer organisation  in maintaining peace and security  at community  level.

YVCPO are a voluntary organisation with  members across the country involved in fighting lawlessness and support to vulnerable communities in human security related activities.

The RPC reiterated the support  of Rwanda National Police in facilitating them to achieve their goals.

He however, asked them to strengthen their  coordination mechanisms and work jointly  with other stakeholders such  as grassroot  leaders.

He emphasised the need to sensitize other youth to desist from  drug abuse and excessive alcohol consumption.

"We continue to see  youngsters being arrested  for either drug abuse or trafficking...,some of your colleagues  have been seen producing illicit alcohol which continue  to ruin  their health make this your goal to change "said RPC Ntaganira.

During  the meeting the  new leaders of YVCPO were unveiled  to the police regional leadership.

They also pledged to improve their services to the community and to remain  committed to improving  and sustaining the voluntary services done by their  predecessors.

YVCPO are part of RNP's philosophy of involving  citizens  to fight crime by being each other's eye to uproot  every illegal  conduct at village  levels.
