Young people must lead in the fight against drug abuse as well as be Ambassadors of the law by sensitising their communities about the dangers associated with abusing or dealing in illegal drugs.
The message was delivered in Ngoma District by Assistant Inspector of Police, Jean Pierre Ndayisaba, the DCLO of Ngoma, during a meeting with youth representatives in the District on January 23.
"Some young people have made the wrong choice of getting involved in illegal drugs, and this has become a danger to their lives and families. Some have dropped our of school or started living a life of crime. As youth representatives you should stand up and reach out to them and tell them to clean their lives," AIP Ndayisaba said.
"In the framework of community policing, you should also participate in protecting your communities by providing timely and non relevant information to Police whenever you suspect ongoing activities of drug dealings."
He also called on school administrators to increase sensitization and debate among students on how to tackle the challenge of drug abuse among young people.
