A woman in Gisozi, Gasabo District has been arrested for allegedly fatally battering her husband with a bottle.
Claudine Nyiraminani, 24, currently detained at Gisozi Police station purportedly assaulted her spouse, Emmanuel Ntahomvukiye, 30, on September 8 at about 2:30 am.
The victim, who sustained serious injuries on the head, was evacuated to Kacyiru Police hospital where he is currently getting treatment.
CIP Richard Iyaremye, Acting police spokesperson for the central region, said the incident could have been influenced by drunkenness, although most victims are women.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the husband returned home very late drunk, and had an argument with the wife and this prompted her to trounce on him with a bottle leaving him unconscious,” CIP Iyaremye said.
“Most domestic related crimes, especially between couples are due to excessive drinking, property disputes and family negligence. Despite these misunderstandings, there’s no reason for one to take matters in their own hands.”
“There are many places where grievances can be channeled instead of labeling yourself a suspected offender. Police stations have been brought closer to communities; there are local leaders and Abunzi (mediators).
All these are there to help you solve your differences, so use them,” he added.
Article 148 of the penal code states that any person who intentionally causes injuries to another, or beats or commits any serious acts of violence against another person shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of six months to two years and a fine of Rwf100, 000 to Rwf500, 000 or one of these penalties.
