Minister Harerimana urges security companies to uphold professionalism

The training is aimed at uplifting the efficiency and professionalism of security companies in their day-to-day operations, as well as fostering their partnership with Rwanda National police (RNP).
Minister Harerimana told representatives of the security companies that, “RNP has opened all channels for collaboration and you should ensure that you communicate and partner with the police through the provision of timely information, and participating in nationwide campaigns against crimes. This way we shall collectively achieve our goal of maintaining Law and order.”… Read more
Minister Harerimana tells park rangers to apply advanced security skills in curbing environmental crimes
A group of 120 park rangers have completed an intense two-months training aimed at equipping them with skills and knowledge to provide quality security to Rwanda’s national parks and natural resources.
Their graduation on July 31 was officiated by the Minister of Internal Security, Sheikh Musa Fasil Harerimana at the Police Training School in Gishari, Rwamagana District – where they were trained.
The ceremony was attended by the CEO of Rwanda Development Board (RDB), Francis Gatare, ,the Inspector General of Police Emmanuel K. Gasana, and several other dignitaries
The training of park rangers was conducted in partnership between Rwanda National Police (RNP) and RDB, as a collaborative effort to advance tourism and sustainable development through strengthening biodiversity conservation. Read more
IGP Gasana urges Diaspora students to be policing ambassadors
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Emmanuel K. Gasana, has called upon Rwandan students in the Diaspora to live a "focused-life" by upholding Rwandan values and be exemplary in the promotion of safety and security.
IGP Gasana made the remarks on July 26 while delivering a lecture on security to the eighth edition of the Rwandan Diaspora students on Civic Education (Itorero) training, named 'Indangamirwa VIII' currently underway at Rwanda Defense Forces (RDF) Combat Training Centre in Gatsibo District.
The three- week training started July 12 and brings together 184 Diaspora students, including 74 girls, from 34 countries… Read more
RNP joins ‘HeForShe’ Global campaign on gender equality
In a bid to demonstrate a strong commitment to gender equality, and further boost the fight against gender-based-violence (GBV), Rwanda National Police has joined the “HeForShe” global campaign.

CAR delegation borrows a leaf from RNP's Isange One Stop Centre
A 12-man delegation from Central Africa Republic (CAR), on Wednesday visited Isange One Stop Centre at Kacyiru Police Hospital, to purposely learn from Rwanda’s modal of fighting Gender Based Violence (GBV).
The delegation which is composed of lawmakers, security force personnel and welfare experts, is in Rwanda for a five day visit aimed at getting acquainted on the country success story as far as GBV prevention is concerned.
At the Kacyiru Police Hospital (KPH), the delegation was received by Inspector of Police, Charles Rwego, the head of Psychiatry, who explained to them how the centre operates and different services offered to GBV victims. Read more
RNP dispatches more female IPOs to Haiti
Twelve female Rwanda National Police (RNP) Individual Police Officers (IPOs), on Thursday left for year-long United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH).
The officers are joining another group of 22 IPOs currently deployed in Haiti.
Speaking during the pre-deployment briefing at the RNP headquarters in Kacyiru, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Emmanuel K. Gasana, challenged the officers to be focused on their mandate and professionalism.
“Uphold the Rwandan and RNP values; serve within the boundaries of your mission with maximum discipline and team work; you should ensure that your performance is outstandingly good,” IGP Gasana said. .. Read more
Police FC unveils 14 new signings
Rwanda National Police (RNP) football club has officially unveiled 14 new players ahead of the 2015/2016 National Football League season set to start in September.
The new signings were unveiled by the Inspector General Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana on July 27 at Kicukiro artificial turf, during an event that also included giving them their shirt numbers.
The event also marked the club’s official start of the training in preparation for the new season.
The new players are; Mohamed Mushimiyimana formerly from AS Kigali before going to Hungry on recruitment, Anderson Neza from REFA academy in Spain, Robert Ndatimana and Issac Muganza both from Rayon Sport, APR pair of Hertier Turatsinze and Hegman Ngomirakiza, Danny Usengimana and Hakim Tuyisenge both from Isonga…. Commercial motorcyclists urged to take a lead in crime prevention
Commercial motorcyclists can play a significant role in crime prevention considering that they are exposed to a wide range of people, which gives them the ability to identify and report any suspected criminal before they commit offenses.
While addressing about 4000 Commercial motorcyclists operating in Musanze district on Friday July 31, Rwanda National Police's Commissioner for Community Policing, ACP Damas Gatare, urged them to work closely with security organs in crime prevention.
In an event that took place at Ubworoherane Stadium in Umuhoza sector of Musanze District, ACP Gatare told the youthful commercial motorcyclists that their contribution to crime prevention is mainly timely report and information sharing whenever they are suspicious of anything. Read more
Crime preventers in Kicukiro called to strengthen cooperation
Crime preventers in Kicukiro District have been called upon to be more active to solve community security challenges.
They were also urged to always be closer to communities and be fast to share timely information about what could be affecting them to reinforce the ideal of prevention rather than responding to consequences of crime.
Mayor Ndamage who presided over the Meeting said there are markets available for all those operating their businesses on streets, which is illegal and urged them to join the well established places for doing their business… Read more
Over 700 students in Nyaruguru tutored on dangers of drug abuse
In a bid to counter drug abuse among the youth, Rwanda National Police (RNP) has reached out to two secondary schools in Nyaruguru District to educate students about their role in fighting against drug abuse and trafficking.
The campaign - which is a continuous practice by (RNP) – was conducted on July 28 and reached out to over 700 students drawn from two Imanzi and Ndago Secondary Schools.
Nyaruguru District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO), Inspector of Police (IP) Stanislas Rutayisire, told the students that drugs threaten the nation's youth and leads to physical and mental disability, emotional damage, and a decline in educational achievement and productivity of young people….Read more
Police parade three drug traffickers
Rwanda National Police, on Thursday paraded three men who were arrested red-handed as they attempted to transport eight sacks of cannabis weighting about 400kgs from Kirehe District to Kigali.
The suspects identified as Pacifique Nkurikiyingoma, Emmanuel Havugimana and Emmanuel Ngendahimana were busted by the police as they loaded eight sacks of marijuana in a vehicle.
Rwanda National Police Spokesperson (RNP), Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Celestin Twahirwa, said that the arrest of the trio was due to a tip-off from Kirehe district residents and it’s in the spirit of continued collaboration in fighting against drug abuse.
“We received reports from residents about sacks of cannabis being smuggled in the country; we trailed them until we arrested them,” he said.
Twahirwa issued a tough warning against anyone dealing in drug use and trafficking saying that police won’t be lenient or hesitate to arrest anyone connected to drugs…. Read more
Police destroys seized heroin, cocaine and amphetamines drugs
Rwanda National Police on Thursday destroyed several drugs ranging from heroin, cocaine, and amphetamines that were seized separately from different drug traffickers.
The drugs that were incinerated include 13.5 kilograms of heroin that were seized from Cécile Mukarukundo and Samy Uwimana in February this year, 8 kilograms of cocaine seized from Sostene Izibyayo and Ddungu Hasifa last year and 2.5 kilograms of amphetamines seized from Lovine Njoroge Wanjiku in January this year.
Following the seizure, police kept the drugs in safe store as exhibit awaiting the trials of those that were caught in possession of them.
The cases have been fully litigated and people were sentenced – which allows the police to proceed with the destruction of the drugs.
Police transported the narcotics to Gatsata Sector of Gasabo District where they were placed into a deep heating incinerator and burnt them… Read more
Police intercepts theft of 2500 liters of diesel from Chinese Construction
Police in Nyamasheke district, on July 28 recovered some 2,480 liters of diesel believed to have been stolen from “China Road and Bridge Corporation”, a Chinese construction company.
According to the Western Province police spokesperson, Inspector of Police (IP) Théobald Kanamugire, the allegedly stolen diesel was found on a boat in Lake Kivu, in Ntango Cell of Nyabitekeri sector.
The stolen diesel was found packed in 123 jerricans. Rwanda National Police immediately initiated investigation to arrest suspects who are still at large.
Preliminary investigation by Police reveals that people behind theft of diesel were planning to ship it to the neighbouring countries where they would easily sell it off…Read more
