Stern warning as RNP intensifies fight against fake drivers' licences
Rwandans have been reminded about the fact that Rwanda National Police (RNP) is the only institution that issues driver's license.
The call comes in the wake of RNP seizing 81 counterfeit driving licenses over the last six months and arresting criminal masterminds who make them.
The criminal act is punishable under article 609 of the Rwandan penal code.
Police also arrested one of the ringleaders, identified as Hyacinthe Habimana, 24, who is suspected of luring licence seekers into buying fake ones believing that they are legitimate.
Rwanda Formed Police Unit in Haiti gets environment protection award
The Rwanda Formed Police Unit serving under UN Stabilisation Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAAH) has been awarded a certificate of Environmental Commitment in recognition of its cooperation rendered to the mission in implementing works to improve the envrionment in Haiti mission areas.
The award was presented by the MINUSTAAH Mission Director, Wallace Divine, after an inspection conducted this month in regard with environment protection in all mission occupied sites.
The Rwanda FPU Contigent Commander, CP Bruce Munyambo said on March 14 that based on the idea of promoting Rwanda's home grown solutions and environmental cultural awareness, the contingent located in the Southern Region of Haiti in Jeremie, implemented a new initiative where garbage is collected in one place, segregated and deposited in general dumping at Port au Prince.
RNP reaches out to 800 students on drugs prevention
The youth have a very important role to play in turning back crime by being active ambassadors anti drugs campaigns in their schools and communities.
Rwanda National Police (RNP) delivered an anti-drugs and anti human trafficking message on March 12 to over 800 students of GS Akumunigo Secondary School in Nyarugenge District.
During the seminar, Inspector of Police Seraphine Nyirandikubwimana, from the Community Policing Department, told the students about the dangers of consuming illicit brew and narcotics and also reminded them to be aware of people who lure young people especially girls into human trafficking by promising them expensive gifts and wealthy lives.
RNP recovers construction material stolen from school
Rwanda National Police recovered construction material, stolen on March 12, from Muyange Secondary School in Kicukiro District.
The material which included pipes and roofing textiles valued at around Rwf100,000 were safely returned to the school, while four suspects were arrested.
The school's management expressed gratefulness to Police for having recovered the materials, and warned that it should be a lesson to others who could be involved in illegal activities.
Police crackdown on city criminal ring
In a bid to beef up public safety in the City of Kigali, Rwanda National Police (RNP) stepped up operations to crackdown theft and burglary.
An ongoing operation led to the recovery of assorted electronics including television sets, computers and home theatres among others.
The operation conducted last week led to the arrest of two main suspects believed to be ringleaders of criminal gangs associated with house break-ins around the city, especially targeting electronics.
Police Spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Celestin Twahirwa appealed to the public to take precautions against theft by being careful about their property, and urged especially business premises to install CCTV cameras and employ night guards to ease police investigations in such cases.
Fake money dealer arrested in Nyanza
A man identified as Josue Harindintwari is currently under custody at Busoro Police Station, Nyanza District after he was arrested in possession with counterfeit money.
The suspect was arrested on March 11 following a tip off from an employee of Umurenge SACCO of Busoro, after she noticed that he had been given her fake money to deposit to his account.
The suspect had 14 notes of Rwf5000 and he tried to con the attendant. But she noticed that they were fake and stealthily alerted Police. Our officers arrived in a little while and found the man still around and immediately arrested him
Police arrests suspected motorcycle thieves
In an exemplary depiction of community policing, Police and residents worked together to close down and arrest two suspected motorcycle thieves in Gatsibo District.
The two are believed to have attacked a commercial cyclist in the morning hours of March 11 in Karenge Sector, where they stole his motorcycle and left him for dead after trying to strangle him with a rope.
