Police launches “mobile Police Station”
Innovation at Rwanda National Police took another step forwards when on Thursday 8 January, the force unveiled its Mobile Police Station Vehicles services.
These services are extended to citizens residing or working in places located far away from Police stations, whereby, a mobile vehicle treks through the terrain searching for those wishing to make complaints or to report injustices committed against them.
The launch took place in Kamonyi District, Mugina Sector, where the station vehicle packed in a market place and inside it, an officer received and recorded reports from close to 100 residents.
Police currently has two Mobile Station Vehicles that cover areas which are assessed to be in need of the services, with plans to have enough vehicles that can traverse the whole country within the coming years.
All over the country, the news was received with cheers from the public, who indicated how important the service will be in their daily lives.
RNP leadership assess performance of units
On Friday, the Rwanda National Police (RNP) top leadership started a countrywide tour to evaluate the force’s activities in District Police Units (DPUs) and consequently lay more strategies to improve service delivery.
The end of year message to Rwanda defense forces and security forces from the His Excellency Paul Kagame the President of the Republic of Rwanda, was also delivered to the officers operating in the countryside.
The four-day tour started in Rubavu District, Western Province, where the Inspector General of Police Emmanuel K. Gasana visited the DPUs of Rubavu, Ngororero and Nyabihu, and challenged the officers to be always guided by discipline, hard work and result-oriented.
Over 900 complete 'Police Basic Course'
On Monday January 5, the tenth intake of 916 Police recruits including 149 females, were successfully passed out after completing an intensive eight months ‘Basic Police Course’ at the Police Training School in Gishari, Rwamagana District.
The recruits were given the rank of Police Constable (PC) by Minister of Internal Security, Sheik Musa Fazil Harerimana, who officiated at the colorful ceremony which was also attended by IGP Emmanuel K. Gasana and senior police officers.
In his remarks, Minister Harerimana congratulated the graduates and urged them to use their newly acquired skills in helping Police to achieve its mission aimed at delivering high quality services, accountability and transparency and safeguard the rule of law.
The eight months training they acquired at the school is a basis for them to offer quality services, while at the same, it represents RNP’s continued efforts to bolster its ranks with well trained staff.
Police issues recruitment announcement
In the same spirit of enlarging and professionalizing RNP, an announcement was issued calling for interested recruit cadet candidates.
Among the qualification criteria for those interested include; to be of Rwandan Nationality; having the willingness; not to be exceeding 30 years; have at least a University degree; not to have had any criminal conviction of more than six months; be healthy and strong enough to work in Police; and not to have been previously dismissed from functions of public services. Interested candidates are requested to submit fully filled recruitment forms at District Headquarters not later than January 30, 2015.
12 stolen cows recovered and returned to owner
In a criminal case that seemed to cross borders, Rwanda National Police (RNP) managed to recover all the 12 stolen cows and returned them to the owner in Nyagatare District.
The cows were recovered on January 4, in the South Western Ugandan district of Ntungamo in an operation conducted by Rwanda and Uganda Police forces through information sharing.
Police verified that they had been stolen from the farmer’s kraal in the night of January 3.
The successful mission was possible because of RNP’s good cooperation with its counterparts in neighbor. This is a significant reminder of how RNP has built a very expanse profile in coordination with neighboring countries in a bid to tackle every kind of crime that may seek to disappear within the borders.
Private businesses urged to be vigilant on hygiene and security
Last Tuesday, Rwanda National Police partnered with the City of Kigali in an inspection in line with the fourth edition of a competition in ‘Security and Hygiene’ focused on mobilizing citizens towards accelerating and maintaining security as well as sanitation in and around Kigali City.
It is during this campaign that Police reminded private entrepreneurs to be vigilant on hygiene and security at their premises.
Launched on November 19 and running until the end of May 2015, the campaign seeks to tackle challenges like noise pollution, fire outbreaks through installation of fire extinguishers on commercial buildings and other public places, initiating security awareness campaigns, timely information dissemination and sharing, restructuring of Community Policing Committees and tightening night patrols.
Police reservists urged to uphold discipline
On Thursday last week, the Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana, called upon former Police servicemen to uphold self discipline and be active in community development activities.
The meeting attracted about 300 Rwanda National Police veterans at the force’s headquarters in Kacyiru, The Police Chief reminded them to always have honorably conduct and continue the good work of developing the country in their capacities.
The meeting was in line with RNP’s strategies to improve the wellbeing of its former personnel and thus enable them to even participate to the country’s development.
