Police central to fighting graft- Gambia Attorney General
The Gambian Minister of Justice, Mama Fatima Singhateh, on October 2, paid a courtesy call to the Inspector General of Police Emmanuel K. Gasana where she hailed Rwanda National Police policies and response against corruption.
Singhateh, who was accompanied by Oulaye Camara, the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Attorney General Chambers and Justice in the Gambia and Saffie Sankareh, a Senior State Counsel, had visited the RNP as part of her week-long fact-finding mission on how Rwanda has institutionalized and implemented its anti-corruption policies.
During her meeting with the IGP and senior police officers, Singhateh poured out appreciations to the force for its outstanding response to graft. Read more
RNP to deploy female FPU contingent
Rwanda National Police (RNP) said that preparations to generate an all-140-female Formed Police Unit (FPU) to be deployed in UN peacekeeping operations are in “high gear.”
"Subsequent to the pledge made by HE Paul Kagame the President of the republic of Rwanda , and Commander-in-chief of defense and security forces during the UN Leaders' Summit on Peace keeping Operations on Monday to deploy an extra military and Police peacekeepers including an all-female police unit, RNP is ready to deploy, when called" said CSP Celestin Twahirwa , RNP spokes person. IGP Gasana calls for strong police-public partnership in Road Safety and combating illicit drugs
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Emmanuel K. Gasana called for stronger partnership between police and the public in order to promote Road Safety and overcome the persistent trafficking, trade and consumption of illicit drugs and other local crimes like domestic violence that affect the country’s safety and security.
The Police Chief made the call on October 1 while meeting over 1200 local leaders, transporters and commercial motorcyclists in Nyagatare District.
The local leaders included The executive secretaries of all the 14 and 108 Sectors and Cells respectively, in a joint event that focused on strengthening the fight against drug abuse and promoting road safety under the ongoing Road Safety awareness Month.’ Read more
Private security convoys urged to adhere to traffic rules during 'cash-in-transit'
Security companies charged with transporting money for financial institutions are urged to respect traffic rules like all other road users in order to curb accidents.
The Commissioner for Traffic and Road Safety, CP George Rumanzi, while speaking to owners and representatives of private security companies on September 28, noted that drivers of cash-in-transit convoys sometimes disrupt traffic flow by “over-speeding unnecessarily”, suddenly changing lanes without prior notice or breeching road safety rules. Traffic Month: Campaign reaches out to 2500 students in five districts
In a continued effort to sensitize the public on road safety, Rwanda National Police on September 29, reached out to over 2500 students in different schools in five districts.
The schools that benefited from the campaign include Mbuganyana Secondary School in Ngororero, Ecole Secondaire des Parents de Nyanza, (ESPANYA) Ecole Secondaire de Science St Louis de Montfort (ESM) and Christ Roi secondary school in Nyanza and Mugina Secondary School in Kamonyi District. They’ve been spotted in public, sometimes at national events sniffing around or being transported from one place to another. For anyone who hasn’t got close enough to these Police service dogs, you may have a lot of unanswered questions concerning what they do and how they do it.
Are they harmful? Do they have the ability to sniff and find drugs and explosives? How do they do it? How are they trained? How much do they eat in a day? These are some of the questions anyone would ask about the sniffer dogs.

RNP extends firefighting techniques to local leaders, medical workers in Gakenke
In a bid to foster public participation in overcoming fire outbreaks, Rwanda National Police (RNP) reached out to local leaders, medical workers and teachers in Gakenke District to equip them with basic firefighting techniques.
On September 30, a team led by ACP Jean Baptiste Seminega, the Commanding Officer of the RNP Fire and Rescue Brigade, extended firefighting skills to Sector executive secretaries, medical workers in health centres and teachers.
They were also taught how to prevent fires from occurring as well as how to react instantly in case it breaks out. Read more
Police officers complete IT skills training
A group of 25 Police officers successfully completed a course on Hardware Maintenance and Troubleshooting on September 29, aimed at enhancing their skills and knowledge in this field.
The month-long training for officers drawn from different departments at Rwanda National Police (RNP) was conducted by trainers from Tumba College of Technology.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Emmanuel K. Gasana officiated at the closing of the course at the RNP headquarters in Kacyiru. Read more
Police Handball Club is champion elect
Police Handball Club successfully defended its trophy by becoming the champions of the National Handball League Trophy for the second year in a row.
The law enforcers on October 3 beat Rwanda College of Education, (former KIE), 49 points against 15, to get 54 points with only one game left to be played.
The second placed APR has 50 points, meaning that, even if APR wins its last game of the season next Saturday, they will not be able to overtake Police. Read more
