RNP celebrates ‘15 years of partnership in policing’

On June 16, all roads led to Amahoro Stadium – Petit Stade – where thousands of Rwandans and local and international partners joined RNP to mark its 15th anniversary under ’15 years of partnership in policing.’

 RNP was joined by government officials, local, regional and international partners to celebrate its fifteen years of service delivery in keeping law and order, marked by professionalism, efficiency and partnership.

 High level dignitaries present included Minister of Internal Security Sheikh Musa Fazil Harerimana, who officiated the event, the Mayor of Kigali Fidele Ndayisaba, Gen. Patrick Nyamvumba, the Chief of Defence Staff of Rwandan Defence Forces (RDF), CGP Emmanuel K. Gasana,  the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and other senior government officials , senior police officers and local leaders, among others.

 They were also joined by representatives of friendly police institutions from Uganda, Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania, Sudan, South Sudan,  EAPCCO Head of Regional Bureau and a representatives from Interpol.

RNP awards best performers in community policing

Key activities of celebrations to mark RNP’s fifteen years of existence included the awarding of best performing district and sectors in security and hygiene campaign conducted in City of Kigali, in the last six months and individuals who distinguished themselves in community policing.

 Kicukiro emerged as the best district in security and hygiene, and was awarded a Toyota pickup double-cabin.

 Remera Sector in Gasabo District received two motorcycles as the best sector, while Kanombe in Kicukiro and Rwezamenyo in Nyarugenge received a motorcycle each after emerging second and third respectively.

At individual level, David Hategikimana , a resident of Kicukiro was awarded a motorcycle for his contributions towards community policing initiatives, particularly on radio discussions where he provided regular input – and Adolph  Mutanagana of Gisozi, who provided timely information during a specific police operation.

Regional exercise on transitional crimes ends on a high note

Police officers from eight member states of the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO) have successfully completed a Command Post Exercise (CPX) at the National Police College (NPC) in Musanze District aimed at enhancing their understanding and cooperation against transnational crimes such as terrorism, narcotics trade and human trafficking.

 The four-day training codenamed “Solidarity II” was officially closed on June 18 by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Administration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda,

 The event held at NPC saw the awarding of certificates to participants from Burundi, Comoros, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.

The joint play follows the maiden exercise also conducted in Rwanda in 2013, and is expected to be conducted annually and on a rotational basis.

Police Senior Command and Staff Course' students learn about security, governance in Kenya

A team of 'Police Senior Command and Staff Course students currently on Africa Tour in Kenya, were on June 15 received by heads of various Police departments as they sought to learn more about security in the socio-economic development sphere.

Mr. Arrisson O. Otieno, who received the students on behalf of the Inspector General of Kenya Police Services, in apresentation, gave them an insight of the general security situation in the country, governance, foreign policy and economic development.

Namibia Police Chief receive Rwandan 'Police Senior Command and Staff Course' students

The Inspector General of Namibia Police Force, Lt. Gen. Sebastian Haitota Ndeitunga, on June 17 received a team of 'Police Senior Command and Staff Course' students currently on Africa Study tour in Namibia, and commended the Rwanda National Police College (NPC) for its effort to bring the continent together to learn and respond to security challenges collectively.

The team visiting Namibia is headed by a Commissioner of Police (CP) Felix Namuhoranye, the Commandant of National Police College. Thirty Police officers from eight African countries attending the third intake of the PSCSC are currently on an African study tour in two separate groups, with the other team headed by CP Cyprien Gatete is also visiting Kenya.

Pupils acquire firefighting skills

A group of 68 pupils from Path to Success International school in Kimihurura Sector, Gasabo District, visited Rwanda National Police (RNP) headquarters in Kacyiru, where they were given basic firefighting skills such as detection, evacuations procedures and usage of fire extinguishers.

The pupils were accompanied with their school teaching staff during the one day study tour on June 19, where they met with officers from the fire and rescue brigade. The pupils' visit is in line with the RNP concept of equipping communities with firefighting techniques in ensuring community safety.

After demonstrations on how to put out fire, Dinah Asaba, one of the teachers commended RNP for its continued efforts in ensuring security in school environment by reaching out to pupils and students on different themes including firefighting, gender-based-violence and drug abuse among others.

RNP hand over recovered money to Ugandan businessman, arrests suspect

Rwanda National Police (RNP) has handed over Rwf250,000 and Ush3 million to a Ugandan businessman, after it was recovered from a suspected thief who had crossed into Rwanda through Kagitumba border.

The suspect identified as Fred Byamukama, was tracked and arrested on Monday in Rwemiyaga Sector of Nyagatare District, after timely exchange of information and collaboration between Rwanda and Uganda Police forces.

The money was recovered from the suspect at the time of his arrest, after police searched him.

RNP handed over the money to its legitimate owner on June 19 at the headquarters in Kacyiru in the presence of Uganda's Assistant Commissioner of Police Patrick Lawot,police Liaison officer at Uganda High Commission in Rwanda.

Woman arrested for circulating counterfeit currency

Police in Kigali is holding a 27 year old woman suspected of being part of a ring that circulates counterfeit money in and around Kigali City.

The suspect, Betty Mukamugema, is detained at Nyamirambo Police Station, after she was arrested in Nyabugogo while trying to send counterfeits worth Rwf100,000 via Mobile Money.

Police in the district said that her arrest on June 16, followed a tip off from the mobile money agent who after, realizing the money received from the suspect was counterfeited, immediately called for Police intervention.

Police seize over 280 bottles of smuggled liquor

olice in Nyabihu District have impounded 287 bottles of smuggled liquor after it was sneaked into the country apparently through an illegal border in the Western Province.

The seized liquor include 96 bottles of Red Wine, 48 bottles of Gordon gin, 26 bottles of Veuve Clicquot and 24 bottles of Black Label.

Other brands include Remy Martin, Chivas, J&B, Jack Daniel, Red Label and Captain Morgan.

The successful operation was conducted on June 17 following a tip off from an informer.

Two electronic thieves arrested in Giporoso

Following a tip from local residents, Rwanda National Police (RNP) successfully  conducted a targeted operation and  arrested two suspected electronics thieves in Giporoso Cell, Kanombe Sector in Kicukiro Distict.

Frederic Nizeyimana, 33 and Pascal Nsabimana 31, were arrested on June 17 at about 1:45am and are currently held at Kicukiro Police Station as further investigations.

The Police Spokesperson for Central Region, Superintendent Modeste Mbabazi, said that Police had earlier got information from an informant about a planned robbery – and acted fast to ensure that it did not take place.

Police FC through to 'Peace Cup' quarter finals

The law enforcers, Police Football Club beat Rwamagana-based Sunrise 2-1 at Mumena stadium on Thursday to book their ticket to the quarter finals of the Peace Cup.

After several squandered chances, Idesbarde Nshuti broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute to put the law enforcers in the lead through Innocent Habyarimana's corner kick.

Coach Cassa Mbungo’s hope to add more goals and consequently seal his place in the quarters, seemed a little bit shattered when Sunrise’s striker Jean d’amour Bunani equalized after he run passed the Police Defense.
