Nyaruguru District Police Commander Supt. Eduard Baramba has appealed to families that could be embroiled in domestic conflicts to refer their wrangles to concerned authorities and justice organs instead of taking justice in their hands.
The call follows the August 17 incident in Rwamiko Cell of Mata Sector where one Theogene Sikubwabo allegedly assaulted and injured his 93-old stepmother apparently over land conflicts.
Sikubwabo is currently detained at Munini Police station while the victim is getting medication at Nyamyumba Health Centre.
Superintendent Baramba explained that the two were previously involved in a land dispute court case which the later won.
He called upon the general public to also report such affected families to help them iron out their problems before turning violent.
Mata Sector Executive Secretary Isaac Rumanzi also urged residents to shun taking justice in their own hands but instead forward their grievances to Police or other government justice sectors.
Rumanzi also noted that they have devised stringent measures to prevent such criminal acts and many others including cooperating with Police through community policing and awareness.
