The coordinator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Rwanda, Auke Lootsma, has praised the the role played by Community Policing Committees in crime prevention in the country.
Auke made the eulogy on March 31 during his visit to Musanze Police Unit where he also met members of CPCS in the district.
"The role played by CPCs in maintaining security in communities is noticeable,” Auke said.
He lauded the Rwanda National Police for the initiative as a proactive force to engage the public to ensure sustainable security.
The district mayor, Winifride Mpembyemungu also commended the role played by CPCs role in sustaining security in the district and urged them to keep-up the spirit.
The District Police Commander, Supt. Silas Karekezi briefed the UNDP Coordinator on various anti-crime strategies to fight and prevent crimes and apprehend wrongdoers.
Supt. Karekezi thanked UNDP for supporting the force's crime prevention strategies.
UNDP supports in building the capacity of CPCS through training.
“The trainings and acquired skills enable CPCs to fulfil their assignments effectively,” Supt. Karekezi observed.
The UNDP Coordinator also attended the exercise to destroy narcotics and illicit brew seized in the district in the past few months.
