The four-time National Handball league champions – Police – have reclaimed their top slot in the 2016 national league thanks to a massive win over GS Rambura on Wednesday.
The defending champions thrashed Nyabihu-based GS Rambura 44-17 to maintain their unbeaten run in the national championship to 13 matches with maximum 39 points.
The highest match individual score from the Police’s duo of Jean Paul Muhawenayo and Gilbert Mutuyimana, who scored 15 and 14 goals respectively, kept the law enforcers as favourites for their third straight trophy.
The Heroes Day and Genocide memorial tournament champions now have five marches left to play to the end of the season.
They include Ecole Secondaire Urumuri, University of Rwanda’s College of Education and the College of Arts and Social Sciences, College Inyeramihigo, and their closest challenger APR, who are just two points behind the table leaders.
Police head coach, Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Antoine Ntabanganyimana thanked his players for “staying heads high and focused.”
“We have five matches left to play and that is a concern to us. This requires focus, more training and aiming for maximum results in each game, and that way we can only be sure of the cup,” said AIP Ntabanganyimana.
