UN team commends RNP on Peace and Security

The commandant of National Police College (NPC),  Commissioner of Police (CP) Cyprien Gatete, on August 31, received a team of 10 officials from the United Nations’ Department of Peace Keeping Operations (DPKO) in Musanze district

The delegation was headed by Commissioner of Police Martin Lanyuy from Cameroon.

The delegates were briefed on different courses that are offered at NPC which are; Peace Studies and Conflict Management offered in partnership with the University of Rwanda-College of Arts and Social Science (CASS), Strategic Command and leadership offered by the UK-based Bramshill Police College, among others.

The delegation applauded Rwanda National Police for its role in peacekeeping missions.

The Head of delegation said that the team is in Rwanda to equip RNP’s female Police Officers who are preparing to sit the forthcoming Selection Assistance Assessment Team (SAAT) tests with knowledge and skills in areas of language, shooting and driving.

“Peacekeeping is a complex duty. I convey our sincere gratitude to RNP for the fantastic work it has been doing in bringing peace and security in various parts of the world where Rwanda is assigned duties” observed Lanyuy
He said that UN is committed to increase the number of female Police contingents up to 20% by the end of 2014.

A total of 166 female Police officers will gain experience from the twelve-day training set to commence on September 1 at Police Headquarters in Kacyiru.
