The United Nations (UN), on Friday, September 26, awarded service medals to 188 Rwandan Police peacekeepers in recognition of their outstanding contributions to peace, security, and humanitarian efforts under the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).
The medal pinning ceremony, held at the Rwanda Formed Police Unit Three (RWAFPU-3) camp in Bangassou, celebrated the professionalism, integrity, and unwavering commitment of the 180 members of RWAFPU-3 and eight Individual Police Officers (IPOs), who serve as advisors.
The event was presided over by the UNPOL Chief of Operations, Commissioner General, Amir Arfaoui. The medal pinning ceremony was also attended by Rwanda's Ambassador to CAR, Olivier Kayumba, alongside representatives and peacekeepers from contributing countries, local authorities, and members of the local community.
In his address, Commissioner General Arfaoui praised the Rwandan peacekeepers for their exceptional service, particularly highlighting their critical role in protecting civilians and conducting around-the-clock patrols in Bangassou.

"The efforts of Rwandan Police peacekeepers go beyond traditional peacekeeping duties," said Arfaoui. "Your work in safeguarding communities and facilitating the delivery of essential services is integral to the success of MINUSCA’s mission. Today’s medal ceremony is a recognition of your dedication and selflessness."
Among their notable humanitarian contributions, the officers provided clean water to Bangassou prison and supporting various initiatives aimed at enhancing community resilience and local stability and wellbeing.
Rwanda maintains four police contingents under MINUSCA, deployed in key locations across the Central African Republic. These include RWAFPU-1 and the Rwanda Protection Support Unit (RWAPSU) in Bangui, RWAFPU-2 in Kaga Bandoro, and RWAFPU-3 in Bangassou.
