Umuganda marking International Women’s Day supports classroom construction in Gasabo

The Rwanda National Police (RNP) on Saturday, March 7, joined local leaders, youth volunteers, and residents of Kinyinya Sector in Gasabo District for a special communal work (Umuganda) dedicated to the International Women’s Day. The Day is observed every March 8.

The community work was conducted at Rwankuba Primary and Secondary School in Gahara Cell. It is one of the schools selected under the 2026 Defence and Security Citizen Outreach Programme (DSCOP), an annual initiative conducted by the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), Rwanda National Police (RNP) and the citizens.

During Umuganda, participants cleared bushes and prepared the site where 15 new classrooms will be constructed. The school has been experiencing severe overcrowding, a situation that has affected the learning environment for students.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Teddy Ruyenzi, the Commissioner for Community Policing, commended participants for their commitment and emphasized the importance of cooperation between citizens and security institutions in national development.

“Development is achieved through collective effort and strong collaboration between citizens, security institutions, and local leaders. When we work together, we can address community challenges and create a better future for our children,” ACP Ruyenzi said.

She also encouraged residents to continue supporting government programmes and maintain close cooperation with security institutions in promoting safety and development.

The Deputy Executive Administrator of Gasabo District, Regis Mudaheranwa, also thanked residents for their active participation in the communal work.

He noted that Rwankuba School was selected to receive additional classrooms due to persistent overcrowding, which has been affecting the quality of education.

Mudaheranwa urged residents to take good care of the classrooms once construction is completed, noting that the infrastructure will greatly benefit the community and improve the learning environment for children.
