The Uganda Police Force (UPF), on Sunday, recovered a motorcycle which was stolen in Rwamagana District the previous day and arrested the one person in connection with the act.
It is alleged that the suspect stole the motorcycle, registration number RC 491L, belonging to one Godfrey Kazungu, on Saturday and crossed to Uganda.
Both the victims are residents of Kamagire cell, Nyagatare sector of Nyagatare district.
The suspect allegedly stole the keys from Kazungu, who was apparently shopping, and escaped with the motorcycle which was in a parking yard.
On realizing that the motorcycle was missing, the victim immediately informed Police in the area, who in turn informed their Ugandan counterpart, who apprehended the suspect red-handed and handed him to Police in Nyagatare.
The suspect is currently detained at Nyagatare Police Station as investigation continues.
Chief Superintendent (CSP), Etienne Rutayisire, District Police Commander (DPC) lauded the continued cooperation between Rwanda and Uganda Police forces and appealed to victims to always inform Police “as soon as possible” so as to intervene and rescue the stolen property in time.
“We have a very close working relation with the Uganda Police Force and the citizens, which is now inevitable to arrest anyone that commits a crime in one country and hides in another,” CSP Rutayisire said.
The two Police forces currently enjoy a close cooperation against cross-border crimes.
