Two stolen motorcycles recovered

Police in Kirehe District has recovered two motorcycles, which were stolen recently in City of Kigali.

The motorcycles, TVS plate numbers RE 979D and RC 890X were recovered from two suspected thieves on Monday in Nganda Village, Nganda Cell of Musaza Sector. The suspected thieves; Eric Habineza and Lambert Nkurunziza were also arrested, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, the Police spokesperson for the Eastern region, said.

The motorcycle RE 979D was stolen last Saturday in Kabeza, Kicukiro District, while RC 890X was stolen on Sunday in Kanombe also in Kicukiro, where it was parked at Engen petrol station.

“In the afternoon of Saturday, Thomas Habakubana, the owner of the motorcycle RE 979D, gave it to Nkurunziza to take it home after he [Habakubana] was summoned at Kanombe Police station. Instead, it is alleged that Nkurunziza brought Habineza into the loop to steal it,” CIP Twizeyimana said.

“At about 2am on Sunday as they were fleeing with the motorcycle towards the Eastern Province, they made a stopover at Engen petrol station in Kanombe to refuel, where they stole the second motorcycle and hid them in Musha in Rwamagana District.”

“The duo was arrested while selling the two motorcycles in Kirehe at Rwf250, 000, each, after the would-be buyer became suspicious because of the value, which was way less than the resale value,” said CIP Twizeyimana.

He thanked the “vigilance and responsiveness” of the would-be buyer, which facilitated the recovery of the motorcycles and subsequent arrest of the prime suspects.

“Whenever you suspect something to be stolen or someone engaged in wrongful acts, we urge you to report. Together we can give no room for such criminal activities, facilitate the recovery of anything stolen and ensure that wrongdoers face justice.”
