Police in Nyanza District have recovered two motorcycles, which were stolen in Kigali recently.
Three suspects believed to be behind the theft were also arrested.
Police spokesperson for the Southern region, Inspector of Police (IP) Emmanuel Kayigi named the suspects as Jean Pierre Ngendahayo, Jean Karangwa and Christian Hakizimana.
The spokesperson said that following the theft of the motorcycles; TVS RD 395Y and TVS 727D, in Kigali recently, all district police units were put on alert.
“We later received information from the people about three individuals, who were looking for buyers of the motorcycles, and actually trying to take them in the neighboring countries to sell them there,” IP Kayigi said.
“Working with the people, we located and arrested the three men with the same motorcycles reportedly stolen in Kigali, ” he added.
In one of the theft cases, Hakizimana Christian, a commercial motorcyclist in Kigali, was given a motorcycle one evening by his colleague, to take the evening shift
However, that was the last time Hakizimana was to be seen.
The trio would later manage to steal another motorcycle and went into hiding in Nyanza, where they were located and arrested.
IP Kayigi thanked the public role for their continued partnership in fighting and preventing crimes through information sharing, which facilitates recovery of stolen items and arrest of suspects.
He said that they are currently processing the case file to forward it to prosecution and to ensure that the motorcycles are returned to the rightful owners
