Two drug dealers arrested in Rubavu

Two suspected drug dealers were arrested recently in Rubavu District in operations that also led to the seizure of 10kgs and 1500 pellets of cannabis.

The suspects were arrested in Gisenyi Sector.

Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Innocent Gasasira, the police spokesperson for the Western region identified the arrested suspects as Hamdun Habimana and Samuel Sibomana.

"Another suspect identified as Karekezi Samson is still on the run after police recovered 10kgs in his house located in Gihomne Cell of Rubavu Sector," said the spokesperson.

"Habimana and Sibomana were arrested in Kivumu Cell of Gisenyi Sector with 1500 rolls of cannabis."

"There was information from members of the public about these three individuals, whom they suspected to be drug dealers and indeed where police officers searched their houses they recovered the drugs, two were arrested although Karekezi managed to escape after seeing police officers," the spokesperson said. 

Fighting trafficking, sell and use of narcotic drugs remains among major priorities of Rwanda National Police.

The holistic approach, which also brings on board other government institutions focuses on breaking chains of supply, preventing new users and rehabilitating those addicted.
