Two more people have been arrested in the City of Kigali in connection with noise pollution and night disturbance.
Those arrested are Constantin Misago of Chez Venant and Arsene Nsabe of Cercle Sportif, both drinking spots in Nyarugenge district.
They were arrested on October 12 over nuisance sound at their joints. The arrest is part of the ongoing police operation against disturbing sounds especially at night by churches and, bars and night dancing spots.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Theos Badege, Commissioner for Criminal Investigation Department (CID), on Sunday said the ongoing operation is in line article 600 of the penal code and articles 37 and 108 of the organic law determining the modalities of protection, conservation and promotion of environment in Rwanda.
"This operation is a continuous effort to enforce the law against night disturbance and noise pollution which came after previous meetings including the one held on September 17 in Nyandungu and chaired by the Minister of Internal Security where church owners and leaders were explained on these laws and urged to take ownership instead of being punished,” ACP Badege said after nine others who include church leaders, were arrested.
Rwanda National Police appeals to churches leaders, bar owners and those holding leisure and festivals to operate in designated places and to act in a way that will not affect the well-being of neighboring communities.
Churches are also urged to install sound proofs in their facilities and lower their sound volume during prayer proceedings.
