Police and investigators have arrested two people, separately, for either masquerading as Police officers or offering bribes in order to acquire services illegally.
One of the suspect's identified as Vedaste Micomyiza, 42, was taken into custody on Friday in Kashyamba Village, Karambi Cell in Kabagali sector of Ruhango District.
Micomyiza was at the time trying to give a bribe of Rwf50, 000 to influence the unlawful release of his relative currently detained at Kabagali Police station.
"Micomyiza's relative had been arrested over assault and battery, so he brought Rwf50, 000 to the person handling the case, Police and RIB investigators worked together and arrested him redhanded," Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Deodonne Karekezi, the Police spokesperson for the Southern region, said.
Another suspect; Benoit Sibobugingo, 36, was arrested Saturday in Kimisagara Sector, Nyarugenge District masquerading as a Police officer and defrauding a resident.
CIP Marie Gorett Umutesi, the Police spokespersonfor the City of Kigali, Sibobugingo was at the time receiving Rwf20, 000 from unsuspecting resident.
"Sibobugingo introduced himself to the would-be victim as a Police officer attached to The motor vehicle mechanical inspection centre, who checked his vehicle and gave it a mechanical certificate, and so he demanded Rwf20, 000 for the service," CIP Umutesi said.
"The would-be victim decided to call the Police and Sibobugingo was arrested redhanded receiving the money, and is currently detained at Kimisagara Police station."
She reminded that mechanical inspection service charges are known and paid in the bank not to an individual.
"If any person or Police officer tells you to pay him or her to help you in accessing such services just know that that person is defrauding you and be quick to call the Police for such people to be arrested," Umutesi said.
Anyone seeking the Motor-vehicle Inspection Centre (MIC) services, you're required to present the appointment SMS, proof of payment, vehicle logbook, copies of national ID, driver's license, insurance and the original copy of the expired MIC certificate.
