Trio apprehended over forging driver’s licence

Jean Baptiste Ndereyimana, Anselme Munyamakuta and Jean Marie Mutwarasibo were arrested by Police in Nyarugenge district on October 13 for allegedly forging and selling driver’s licence.

The trio, all hailing from Ngoma district were at the time of arrest found in possession of four definitive permits, all forged.

They are currently detained at Muhima police station.

Chief Inspector of Police Emmanuel Kabanda, the spokesperson for Traffic and Road Safety department said searching for the fourth person said to be connected to the ring.

He explained that the criminal act came to light after the would-be victims reported to police.

“When Police located them near Kimicanga and arrested them, they searched them and found four forged permits on them,” CIP Kabanda said.

He cautioned against the illegal business noting that such forged traffic document is easy to detect.

He also appealed to anyone seeking a driver’s licence or any other traffic related document or services to go through legal channels instead of “going through impossible means.”

The permit, he said, can only be issued by the traffic department and is collected by the owner at nearby Police offices where a candidate did the tests from.

The suspects, he noted, will be charged under article 609 of the Rwanda penal code.

It states that “any person who forges or alters documents by forged signature or fingerprint, falsifying documents or signatures or impersonation, forging agreements, its provisions, obligations, discharged obligations shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of more than five years to seven years and a fine of Rwf300, 000 to Rwf3 million.”
