Three people were arrested on Thursday July 16, in Nyarusazi Cell, Bwishyura Sector of Karongi District in connection with attacking a local resident and stealing Rwf110, 000 from him.
The suspects currently detained at Bwishyura Police station, are Nonela Muhawenayo, 28, Emmanuel Bizimana, 28, and Telesphore Sindayigaya alias Karajegera, 30.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Bonaventure Twizere Karekezi, the Police spokesperson for the Western region, explained that on Tuesday at about 1:30 PM, Muhawenayo, Bizimana and Sindayigaya lured one Euphrem Mbarushimana, 33, into their house after making him believe that they had a bicycle for sale.
“Mbarushimana wanted to buy a bicycle, and in the process, the three suspects got to know about it and made him believe that they had a bicycle which they were selling,” CIP Karekezi said.
He added: “They lured Mbarushimana into their house where he thought he would see the bicycle before negotiating the price. Unfortunately, when he entered the house, the three men allegedly attacked and robbed him of Rwf110, 000 which he had on him.”
“After the victim reported the alleged criminal act, Police and local leaders worked together to locate and arrest the three suspects in Bupfune Village, Nyarusazi cell in Bwishyura sector.”
Under article 168 of the law determining offences and penalties in Rwanda, any person who carries out theft with violence or threat, the offender faces an imprisonment of between five and seven years, and a fine of between Rwf3 million and Rwf5 million.
