Police in Musanze District is holding one Sosthene Nteziyaremye and two brokers in connection with forgery and car theft.
According to the Northern Region Police spokesperson, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, “Nteziyaremye rented a Toyota Avensis RAD 410H from one Clementine Niyonizeye who resides in Kigali. The rental agreement was for a month and it’s during that time that Nteziyaremye allegedly hatched a plan to sell the car.”
Prior to the sale, Nteziyaremye forged purchase agreement indicating that he bought the vehicle from Niyonizeye in august last year at Rwf6.8m.
“The forged purchase agreement was to be used as proof of ownership in the reselling of the car and indeed, with the help of Thomas Habanabakize and Alex Turimubayo (both brokers) Nteziyaremye was to sell the car to one Emmanuel Sibomana at a cost of Rwf5m,” said the spokesperson.
However, Sibomana, who is also a neighbor to Nteziyaremye in Muhoza Sector, Musanze District got suspicious during the negotiations and alerted the police.
“As the sale went on, Nteziyaremye was arrested immediately after receiving Rwf5million from Sibomana. He was found both with the forged purchase agreement and the sale agreement he had made with the would-be new buyer,” said CIP Twizeyimana.
Nteziyaremye along with the two brokers are currently held at Muhoza Police station as investigations proceeds to finalise their case files that will be sent to prosecution.
Meanwhile, the recovered vehicle has since been returned to the rightful owner.
CIP Twizeyimana commended Sibomana for the vigilance and providing information that let to the arrest of the suspects and recovery of the car that had been reported missing.
