The minister of Internal Security Sheikh Musa Fazil Harerimana, on September 18, visited Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru, met and had several discussions with RNP authorities.
The aim was to have an overview of RNP ongoing/planned projects and activities with a view to highlight challenges.
He was received by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Emmanuel K. Gasana, who briefed him on the force’s strategic frame work, police operations and ways to fight the ever increasing cross boarder crimes which are highly sophisticated.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Administration (DIGP/AP), Juvenal Marizamunda presented to the minister the force’s projects in progress which include, 17 ongoing and planned Construction Projects, 2 Rehabilitation Projects, Welfare, Training, Participation in PSO, Cooperation and Various Campaigns.
Minister Harerimana was also presented with services which RNP delivers to the public like fire fighters, folk lifters, the African Security Organs Center for Coordination of Action (AFSOCCA) against VAWG (Violence Against Women and Girls) and construction works for the new general headquarters that will be completed October 2015.
AFSOCCA is a Regional Center of excellence to end violence against women and children and currently boosts of 34 member countries that include security organs.
RNP also plans to build modern police stations at each district (District Police Headquarters) with standard operation procedures to handle personnel and exhibits.
Since 2005, Rwanda National Police has deployed a total number of 1128 Police Officers including 341 females deployed as Individual Police Officers (IPOs) for Civilian-Police (CIVPOL) and current 102 IPOs including 31 females are deployed in 8 different mission like MINUSTAH in Haiti, UNMISS in South Sudan, UNAMID in Darfur, UNOCI in Ivory Coast, UNISFA in Abyei, MUNISCA in Central Africa, MINUSMA in Mali and UNMIL in Liberia.
