Theogene Bihoyiki, 23, who was working as a salesman stole the money on March 10. It is alleged that the suspect fled with the money after his employer sent him to purchase more merchandise as usual, for his retail shop.

Inspector of Police (IP) Samson Habukuri, the acting Police spokesperson for the Eastern region, said Bihoyiki was arrested in Ruhinga Cell of Zaza Sector where he has been hiding.

“He was tracked to his brother's home where he was hiding. Police managed to recover Rwf350, 000 which he was remaining with at the time,” IP Habukuri said.

“Investigations are still underway to know where he put the remaining money or if there are properties he had bought using the money to be confiscated as exhibit in building the case against him but also to ensure that the victim’s money is recovered in one way or another,” he added.

He also advised employers to always record particulars of their employees properly to facilitate investigations in such cases of theft or other crimes.

Theft under article 300 of the penal code attracts a prison sentence of between six months and two years, and a fine of two to five times the value of what was stolen.
