Three people suspected of selling cannabis and distilling illicit brew were apprehended separately on Friday in Police operations conducted in Kicukiro and Ruhango districts.
Emmanuel Twiringiyimana was apprehended in Kicukiro, Niboye Sector in possession of 445 pellets of cannabis, thanks to a tip-off from an area resident who informed police of his criminal business.
Two others; Ezekiel Byaduniya and Cyprien Mutuyemungu were apprehended in Bunyogombe Cell of Ruhango Sector apparently distilling local banned brew.
Police also seized about 100 liters of illicit brew the duo had already distilled. Also seized from the duo are two drums which they were using to make the illicit drink.
They are currently detained at Nyamagana Police station pending further investigations.
Supt. Modeste Mbabazi, Central region police spokesperson acknowledged the vital role the general public play through community policing to either apprehend or provide credible information on drug dealers or other suspected criminals.
"We are seeing a big response from members of the public providing information on drug dealers and other wrongdoers in communities and that's why you see many suspected criminals being arrested everyday," Supt. Mbabazi said.
On Thursday, Rwanda National Police launched a campaign to engage the public more in fighting and preventing the manufuture, sell and consumption of narcotics and illicit brew.
The awareness officially launched in Kirehe, where at least 74 percent of cannabis sneaked into the country pass, is scheduled to be extended in other parts of the country.
