Suspected drug dealers arrested in Nyarugenge

Two people suspected of trafficking cannabis into the country were on July 24 arrested by Police at Giti K'inyoni in Nyarugenge District.

Hassan Byuma, 27 and one only identified as Ignance were intercepted at a Police check-point.

They were apparently travelling in a Toyota Carina registration
RAA 982Z.

Police also recovered 3078 rolls of cannabis in their vehicle which they had apparently trafficked into the country through a porous border in Rubavu District.

The duo is currently detained at Mageragere Police Station as investigations continue.

The suspects argued that the illegal consignment belongs to one Sumaya Bampire said to be living in Mageragere, whom they say had paid them Rwf50, 000 to transport it to Kigali from Rubavu.

In a turn of event, Byuma was also found in possession of a driving licence of one Jean d'Amour Tugirimana, which was stolen on April 18, 2014 along with his phone, iPad and money when unknown people broke into his car in Nyamirambo.

Superintendent Modeste Mbabazi, Police spokesperson for the Central region said the arrest followed a lead provided by a whistle-blower.

"With the arrest the suspect in the April theft, we believe this will also lead us to the recovery of all items that were stolen and bring to justice all those responsible," Supt. Mbabazi said.
