Students in Nyamagabe tipped on crime prevention

Police in Nyamagabe District has reached out to over 300 students of Mulico Secondary School and enlightened them on their role in crime prevention and precisely the effects of drug abuse to health.

In his address to the students at the school, the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO) of Nyamagabe Assistant Inspector of Police(AIP) Daniel Niyibizi reminded them to not indulge in crimes including sale or consumption of narcotic substances.

“Drug abuse has devastating effects on both lives and could hamper your performance in school or force you to drop out of school. By consuming these drugs you are poisoning yourselves. Addicts of such substance always have a bad ending since they are the ones involved in crimes like assault, theft, rape and defilement among others.”

“They usually commit such offenses when they are under influence of illicit substances that’s why we have to collectively fight abuse of drugs by reporting anyone who consumes or traffics them,” he said.

Niyibizi farther said that some cases of heart, liver, kidney and mental problems have been attributed to abuse of narcotic drugs.

Statistics indicate that youth constitute the majority affected by drugs.

Niyibizi went on to tell the students that cases of unwanted pregnancies among young girls are most times related to drug consumption that also put them at the risk of contracting diseases like STDs due to drug abuse.

He further urged the school administration to conduct regular inspections among students, collaborate with law enforcers and consult with parents about their respective roles in fighting drug abuse. He concluded by advising them to form anti-crime clubs in their schools.
