Students discuss drugs abuse prevention

Secondary school students in Kicukiro District participated in a one-day seminar where they discussed society challenges related to drug abuse.

The students included Seventh Day Adventist youth from secondary and other higher institutions of learning and were joined by Police officers and district leaders.

The Kicukiro District Community Liaison Officer Inspector of Police (IP), Hamdum Twizeyimana, urged the student to avoid drugs at all costs and concentrate on their studies.

“There are many of you who are strong and responsible and you do not engage in drug abuse. However there are some of you who are struggling with the addiction and are finding it hard to concentrate on your studies. Those who are strong should look out for their fellows who are struggling and help them,” he said.

“You are the future of Rwanda and you should not let your country down. Study hard and have the opportunity of contributing significantly to the development of your country.”

Pastor Jean Paul Mugabe urged the youth to lead a moral life which is not corrupted with the consumption of drugs.

He urged them to join school clubs such as anti-drug clubs, scouts and girl guides, which will always help them discuss and find solutions to their challenges.
