Police in Kicukiro District has arrested three men in connection with theft of a motorcycle and recovered the stolen bike.
According to the Central Region Police Spokesperson, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Emmanuel Hitayezu, the suspects who are currently held at Gikondo Police station are Leonard Ishimwe, Bernard Ruzindana and Anaclet Habumugisha.
They are alleged to have stolen a motorcycle with plate number RD 127 T that belongs to Gratien Dusabeyezu.
“On the evening of July 20, Dusabeyezu parked his motorcycle in front of a friend’s house in Kigarama Sector, Kigarama Cell, Umucyo Village, and entered the house. Minutes later, he realized his motorcycle was missing and immediately alerted authorities” said SSP Hitayezu.
He added that a search was immediately mounted and the motorcycle was found in about 800 meters away from its initial parking area.
“The suspects had lowered the bike in a ditch and were covering it with bricks. We immediately arrested them, retrieved the motorcycle and handed it back to Dusabeyezu,” he said.
While receiving his motorcycle, Dusabeyezu said; “I am very grateful for the good work of the Police and I urge everyone to always rush to report their stolen belongings to Police in time, because it also helps them (Police) to intervene in time.”
Theft under article 300 of the penal code attracts a term of imprisonment of six months to two years and a fine of two to five times the value of the stolen property or one of these penalties.
