Stolen motorcycle recovered, suspected thieves arrested

Two people said to be part of the ring that steals motorcycles were arrested Friday in Gisozi Sector, Gasabo District.

The Police spokesperson for the City of Kigali, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Marie Gorett Umutesi identified the suspects in custody as Jean Nshimiyimana and one only identified as Niyonsenga alias Rukara. They are currently detained at Gisozi Police station.

The motorcycle plate number RC 298G which the duo stole, was recovered from them during the pursuit, CIP Umutesi said.

“On Friday at about 5am, Nshimiyimana and Niyonsenga allegedly found the motorcycle where it was parked in Umurava Village, Ruhango Cell in Gisozi and stole it,” she said.

“With the help of residents, prime suspects were identified, pursued and in the process they were involved in an accident, where they were arrested,” the spokesperson said.

The suspects sustained minor injuries.

Meanwhile, two other taxi motorcycles registration number RC 069Z and RC 535U, whose riders were found lacking any traffic related documents, were also impounded in Kacyiru Sector also in Gasabo District.

“We are still finding out if the other two impounded motorcycles were also stolen because riders didn’t have any document related to the motorcycles,” CIP Umutesi said.

Riders were also taken into custody, she said.
