Police in Gisagara District have arrest one Olivier Nshimyingabo, who has been on the run after stealing money from his employer in the City of Kigali

Nshimyingabo, who was a storekeeper at his employer's shop, stole Rwf500, 000 on April 28, and escaped into hiding.

He was arrested after police trailed him to a place where he was supposed to meet a friend in Gisagara, according to Chief Inspector of Police Emmanuel Kayigi, the Southern region Police spokesperson.

At the time of his arrest, he was found with Rwf454, 000.

"Nshimyingabo had worked for the businessman for seven years as a househelp. The trader trusted him and even employed him as a storekeeper for his shop in the City of Kigali,” CIP Kayigi explained.

He added: “On April 28, around midday, his employer left the shop and headed for lunch, Nshimyingabo, had already acquired a key to the safe. He opened and stole Rwf500,000 and US$21.”

Upon realizing that the money was missing and his storekeeper was also not on duty, the victim filed a case. The suspect was later tracked down and arrested in Gisagara.

In Gisagara, Nshimyingabo was attempting to reach out to her former colleague, one Claudine Uwase

Both Nshimyingabo and Uwase were once working for the victim as househelp.

“He had spent the rest of the money on renting a new house and buying a mattress and othet beddings. He is currently detained at Nyanza police station,” said the spokesperson.

He also pointed out that the arrest of Nshimyingabo came as a result of collective efforts from residents, local leader, and security organs and thanked them for the efforts.

The case is currently being handled by Rwanda Investigations Bureau (RIB) for further investigations.

Theft under article 300 of the penal code attracts a term of imprisonment of six months to two years and a fine of two to five times the value of the stolen property or one of these penalties.
