Special hirers and commercial motorcyclists urged to respect traffic rules

The Rwanda National Police on September 2 held a meeting with special hirers and motorcyclists operating in Bugarama sector of Rusizi district to lay strategies to fight violation of road rules and regulations.

A total of 120 participants attended the meeting held in Pera cell.

The special hires are grouped under CTVRBU (Cooperative de Taxi Voiture de Rusizi-Bugarama) and the motorcyclists in COMOMARU (Cooperative Motar Mashyuza-Rusizi).

Inspector of Police (IP) Innocent Gatera,in charge of traffic in Rusizi district, told the participants that breach of road rules and instructions like over-taking in dangerous places, driving without license, transporting more than one passenger or with luggage, has been leading to accidents that claim lives and destroy property.

“Accidents are preventable and the only way to avert  them to spare people's lives and properties is to abide by all road rules and instructions,” he said.

He told the participants that accidents are not selective and therefore urged them to operate carefully respecting road traffic rules.

IP Gatera also urged them to be cautious of the passengers and luggage they transport and report suspicious individuals, luggage and any other illegal or criminal acts like illicit drug trade and use, be hygienic and deliver good quality service.

"Some of us had started forgetting about road rules and regulations which could them to violate road rules and regulations.The meetingwas a kind of  refresher to avert accidents,” Mauridi Kagabo ,one of the special hirers,said.
