Seven suspected drug dealers arrested

Separate Rwanda National Police operations conducted in different parts of the country on Thursday arrested at least seven people suspected to be dealers in illicit drugs.

The suspects were arrested in operations conducted in the districts of Nyabihu, Rutsiro, Kamonyi, Nyarugenge and Gasabo.

Police identified the suspects detained in their respective districts as Emmanuel Mudaheranwa, Dorcas Izibikwiye, Hadja Ingabire, Jackson Kayitare, Dative Mukashema, Eugene Mushimiyimana and Olive Cyimana.

They were caught with varied quantities of cannabis and contrabands, police aid.

Reacting of the arrest in Gasabo and Nyarugenge, Police spokesperson for the City of Kigali, Supt Emmanuel Hitayezu, said that these are continuous operations to break chains of supply and to ensure communities that are free from drugs.

“These are security operations to make communities safer, especially that drugs constitute majority crimes but also fuel most crimes related to domestic violence, assault, influences school dropouts.”

He attributed the successful operations and to the role the public themselves play through community policing aspects of night patrols – Irondo – neighbourhood watch and sharing of information on drug dealers in real time.
