Students of the Rwanda National Police College 'Senior Command and Staff' course ended their Kenya study tour on July 25 with a visit to Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) and Fort Jesus in Mombasa.
The twenty eight Police students from nine regional countries were received by Nancy W. Karigithu, the Director General of KMA.
Karigithu briefed them on the core functions of KMA which include advising the Kenyan government on policies and legal issues in maritime sector, regulating, coordinating and overseeing the maritime activities and provision of maritime environment protection, setting guiding principles for Kenya Maritime to meet international standards and implementing the maritime laws and regulation.
The maritime cross functional duties play a big role in standardising and securing Mombasa Ports.
She commended the good cooperation between Kenya and Rwanda and the entire region in various disciplines including business and added that the partnership "should continue to flourish."
She, however, appealed to states using Mombasa ports to always make direct communication in case need arises to ensure quality and quick services.
The head of the students delegation Commissioner of Police Christophe Bizimungu, the Commandant of National Police College also lauded the partnership between the two countries and the region in general.
At Fort Jesus, the students were enlightened on its historical background.
Fort Jesus was built in 1593 by Portuguese and was used as strategic point by the Portuguese explorers like Vasco Da Gama on their way to India for trade and later used in capturing different areas around the East African Coast.
