The week-long study tour for the 'Police Senior Command and Staff' course students, in Kenya continued on the third day with a visit to Kenya Police College (KPC) in Kiganjo in Nyeri county and Del Monte Kenya Limited, a pineapple processing plant.
Twenty nine Police officers from nine regional countries are attending the one year course at the Musanze-based National Police College, which offers strategic leadership and Master’s Programme in Peace Studies and Conflict Transformation.
At KPC, the delegation was received by the Deputy Commandant, DCP Marcus J. Ocholla and the School staff.
DCP Ocholla thanked the delegation for visiting KPC and underscored the need for strengthened cooperation through training to produce professional and competent officers fit to counter modern policing challenges.
The students' team headed by CP Christophe Bizimungu, the Commandant of NPC, were also taken through the history of the College, its vision, mission and core values and courses offered.
Discussions also included forging peace and unity among African countries through socio-economic and Police co-operations, strengthening bilateral and multi-lateral police cooperation in terms of harmonisation of policing practices, training and exchange of information and expertise.
At Del Monte plant, the officers were briefed on how it has contributed to human security development and Kenya's economy in general including offering jobs to 6000 Kenyans.
"This gave students an insight that security is not only about absence of war; it cover all aspects of human security including socio-economic welfare and development," CP Bizimungu said.
