About 3000 litres of illicit brew seized in different police operations in the districts of Ngororero and Rulindo, were on November 16, publically disposed of in an exercise that was meant to send a warning against distillers.
At least 2200 litres of illicit brew was seized from the home of Donathila Mukapasika in Birembo village of Sovu sector in Ngororero.
About 700 other litres were seized from the house of one John Munyankindi, a resident of Nyabirori Village located in Tumba sector, in Rulindo.
Police also held public meetings with hundreds of residents from the two districts on how to enhance partnership against distillers and sellers of the psychotropic substances.
In Ngororero, the District Police Commander, Senior Supt. Marc Gasangwa, while speaking to residents in Birembo village, warned those involved in making or selling illicit substances, and urged the people to report them to make their communities safe from insecurities users cause.
The DPC asked residents to desist from drinking these narcotic and hazardous substances, which eventually leaves no market for the distillers and sellers.
“As we continue with operations to break chains or supply and arresting dealers, we also urge you to refrain from consuming them; this is both for your own good health and the safety of community,” SSP Gasangwa said.
Domestic and gender based violence, child abuse as well as fightings are said to be mainly fuelled and conducted by people under the influence of drugs or drunk.
Police and local leaders in the two public destruction exercises, appealed to residents to share information on any dealers and other people involved in criminal acts.
