Rwf70 million Police Posts inaugurated in Kirehe

Four Police posts valued at Rwf70 million were inaugurated on June 12 in Kirehe district.

The official opening of the posts built by Kirehe district was part of the activities to mark the 20th liberation and RNP's 14th anniversaries which started on Monday.

The police posts were constructed in the sectors of Gahara, Mahama, Mpanga and Kigarama.

Kirehe becomes the first district to build Police posts to strengthen security measures in the district.

During the exercise which also emphasised on crime prevention, Rwanda National Police also gave out medical insurance cards to one hundred families (500 people) and seven cows as part of the force's support to health development and poverty eradication respectively.

Jean Bosco Ndagijimana, one of the beneficiaries of the heifer thanked Police for fulfilling his dream.

Police also awarded one Elie Uwizeyimana and The Vision Club, a local cultural troup with Rwf200, 000 each for composing the best community policing poem and song respectively.

Residents of Mushikiri sector also handed a motorcycle to their community policing committee. The motorcycle was bought out of their contribution to support community night patrols in their area.

Protais Murayire, the district Mayor observed that the unique partnership with the RNP led to crime reduction of up to 43 percent since last year.

The district, he added, established 46 anti-crime clubs in schools and established a hotline - 4137 - for easy and timely reporting of crimes and to enhance security in the district.

Alvera Mukabaramba, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government Presided over the event.

Mukabaramba appealed to residents to double their effort in mounting night patrols to maintain security, which she said is a pillar to development.

She thanked the RNP for supporting community economic and health development.

The Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana also noted that the security Rwanda is enjoying today was due to the spirit of Rwandans who play a great role to fight and prevent crimes.

He noted that all this was also possible because of the support and outstanding guidance by the Head of State, Paul Kagame.

"Village is the foundation for sustainable security. We have to build further on what has been achieved to also, together, deal with the emerging and cross-border policing challenges," the Police chief said.

He also pledged a motorcycle to Gahara sector.

The event was also attended by the Governor of the Eastern Province, Odette Uwamariya, senior police and military officers and district mayors and hundreds of area residents, among others.
